From Sketch to Sculpture: A Day of Artistic Discovery
On 5 September, we were delighted to welcome seven enthusiastic participants to the Drawing and Sculpture Workshop in the beautiful Houghton Lodge Conservatory, led by talented local artists Sally Newton and Zoë Wilson.
The day began with an inspiring tutorial from Sally, who brought the art of drawing to life through demonstrations and insights drawn from famous masters. Using Matthew Duke’s Claude, the Ascending Frog from the Fluvii exhibition as their muse, workshop members explored technique, proportion and artistic expression before sketching their own chosen pieces from the show.
After a delicious lunch courtesy of The Glass House Tea Room, the creative energy carried into the afternoon as Zoë guided the group through a hands-on sculpting masterclass. Participants learned how to transform their drawings into tactile clay models, experiencing the magic of turning two-dimensional ideas into three-dimensional forms.
The atmosphere was one of curiosity and discovery, with attendees uncovering newfound talents under the guidance of two exceptional artists. One even discovered that the quality of teaching had unlocked an entirely new skill.
