Liz Middleton (b. 1975)

Drawing from her experience in contemporary art and traditional stone and letter carving, Liz’s work encompasses sculpture, public art, photography and lettering. Her practice is intuitive, craft- and material-driven, often site-specific, and she reflects the intersection where natural and manmade worlds collaborate or collide through form, placement, or mark-making. In general, Liz works with the essential qualities of earth-derived and synthetic materials, and she is interested in marks of use created consciously or unconsciously, exposing evidence of interaction, touch or the passing of time. By capturing these subtle or stark relationships through sculpture, she attempts to capture intimacy and connection with the earth and life and establish a sense of order and balance.
