Charlotte Howarth (b. 1970)

Charlotte studied at City & Guilds of London Art School and now works as a sculptor, designer, stone carver and letter-cutter, making artworks and memorials for public spaces including designing the lettering for the Donor Windows in The Queen’s Gallery at Westminster Abbey (in conjunction with the Cathedral Studios in Canterbury) and the Baby Haven Memorial in Belfast City Cemetery. She has also had numerous private commissions, spanning house names to memorials. Charlotte has long been fascinated with the realm of memorials and the act of remembrance as a profound exploration of collective consciousness. The term ‘remember’ emerges as a pivotal motif, evoking people we love, places we’ve been, and events that have shaped our lives, at the same time prompting a reflection on our ecological and environmental legacy. Through the lens of Generational Amnesia, Charlotte reveals the fragile, often forgotten, nature of what we’ve lost.
