Hayley Gibbs (b. 1987)
Hayley Gibbs is a London-based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in the field of sculpture. She received her BA in Sculpture from the University of Brighton and went on to create and deliver large-scale sculptures and installations across the entertainment industries. This work also extended to art fabrication and direction for London's luxury brand displays and consumer experiences.
Expanding her skills, she trained in architectural stone carving at the City & Guilds of London Art School and became a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust Craft Scholar. Following this training, Hayley worked with many talented craftspeople and has been engaged in restoration work on a number of heritage buildings. Alongside architectural carving, she has been commissioned and shortlisted for various high-profile public statues, most notably the Nancy Astor Statue, Plymouth Hoe.
Working in the studio, Hayley’s personal practice focuses on how the volumes and voids of the body can convey emotion and reflect shared experience. She uses the traditional techniques and repetitive process of carving and casting as a material starting point for tactile sculptures. These processes are often collaborative, inviting others to use their bodies to press and mould materials; the pieces are a result of this performative material dialogue. Texture and mark making are integral to the work, with Hayley carefully selecting the materials depending on the site requirements and leaning into their fundamental, malleable or fixed nature.
Hayley has experience running socially engaged workshops through her sculptural practice and teaches on the BA carving course at City and Guilds of London Art School. Group exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022: Hastings Open 2022, Wells Art Contemporary 2023, the Viewing Room at Vitrine courtesy of Charlie Godet Thomas 2024 and Nurture, Crescent Arts in 2025.
