Flashes of red and gold accompany the gentle sound of birdsong. The name ‘Thistle Tweaker’ comes from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘Thisteltuige’, which beautifully illustrates the bird’s feeding habits. With their long, pointed beaks ideally suited for plucking seeds from spiky teasels, these birds can often be seen balancing precariously on thistle heads swaying in the wind. They diligently pick at the seeds before taking flight once more.
