Modus was an exercise in following Ben's energy and emotion, allowing the sculpture to evolve as a free-flowing, endless form. Modus translates as ‘method,’ which to Ben felt fitting for a piece shaped through traditional carving techniques. Using a hammer and chisel, he embraced the physicality of the process, intentionally leaving behind distinct tool marks and angular planes. These textures catch light and shadow in shifting ways, guiding the viewer’s eye across the surface and around the forms.
